The Making of a Maestro: The Life and Music of Tommy Tycho is my methodically researched biography of Maestro Tommy Tycho, due for publication soon! This book traces Tycho’s early childhood in Budapest where he was a child prodigy, and then maps how World War II interrupt his classical studies and saw him playing jazz, and dance band music. I then trace how he eventually fused these two elements together to make his own style of music. I then trace his move to Australia in 1951, where he worked on ABC radio as a solo pianist, duo pianist, with the Jay Wilbur group, and eventually leading his own ensemble. Then television started in Australia and Tommy moved to ATN-7 where he was the music director for 15 years. But, it would be the Good Music concerts for 2CH radio in the 1970s that made Tommy a star, and popular with the public, and the eventual creation of the ‘Maestro’ image. This is the fascinating story of Tommy Tycho’s life, and his role in the Australian music and entertainment industry. It traces his story through a close look at the music that he made. The music was the man, and the man was music! Stay tuned for the release date! I can’t wait to share this story with you all.
